Vic Shaw, Class of 1962, holds fond memories of his time at Millsaps, especially his time in the Millsaps Singers choral group. Vic's appreciation of his Singers experience has inspired his continued giving to Millsaps, including a planned gift.
In 2011, Vic funded a Millsaps Charitable Gift Annuity. "My gift will support the mission of Millsaps College," he said, "and I was able to designate how my gift will be used."
A Charitable Gift Annuity allows the donor to give money to the College and to receive returns at a fixed rate. Vic's gift will ultimately be used at the time of his death to benefit his alma mater. In the meantime, Vic will continue to receive these payments at this same return rate for the rest of his life.
While Vic receives these returns, he continues to give generously to support the work of the Singers.
A 75 year old person who establishes a charitable gift annuity of $50,000 would receive a 5.8% return annually, or $2,900, each year for the rest of his or her life.
